Authorities in Qatar have arrested more than 300 people over the alleged misuse of social media during an ongoing situation in the country.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Interior Qatar, officials confirmed that a total of 313 individuals of different nationalities had been arrested by the Economic and Cyber Crimes Prevention Department under the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
According to the ministry, the suspects were accused of filming and sharing unauthorized video clips on social media platforms, as well as spreading misleading information and rumours related to the current situation in the country.
Authorities said some of the shared content was intended to create unnecessary public concern and panic.

Officials noted that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to monitor and regulate the misuse of digital platforms. The ministry stated that the individuals violated official directives that discourage the circulation of unverified information online.
In the statement, the government warned members of the public against filming or publishing videos linked to the situation without permission. Residents were urged to rely only on approved and verified sources when seeking updates.
“The Ministry stresses the importance of refraining from filming, publishing video clips, or circulating rumours related to the current situation,” the statement said.
Authorities further confirmed that legal and administrative measures had already been taken against those arrested. However, specific details about the suspects or the exact incidents leading to the arrests were not immediately made public.
The ministry also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the directives.

The statement emphasized that relevant authorities would not hesitate to take necessary legal steps against individuals who continue to spread misinformation or share unauthorized content online.
