As Kenya prepares to host the 2026 World Rally Championship Safari Rally, the Government has announced comprehensive security and traffic arrangements to ensure the safety of participants, spectators, and residents.
The rally, taking place from March 12th to 15th in Naivasha and surrounding areas, is the country’s largest outdoor sporting event, with attendance nearly quadrupling since 2022.
The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has spearheaded a coordinated effort involving the National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers, National Transport and Safety Authority, and the Kenya National Highways Authority.
County authorities and rally organizers are also actively participating in the operation.
“We are committed to ensuring that every rally driver, spectator, and resident enjoys a safe and secure experience during Safari Rally Kenya 2026,” said CS Murkomen.
“Our teams have worked tirelessly to prepare for all eventualities, including crowd management, road safety, and traffic control.”

More than 1,000 officers from different formations will be stationed along rally routes, spectator zones, and key access roads.
Their mandate includes securing the event, managing traffic, and assisting in emergency response.
Motorists along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway who do not have business in Naivasha are advised to use alternative routes to ease congestion. Recommended options include:
Nairobi-Limuru-Flyover-Njabini-Ol Kalou-Ndondori-Lanet-Nakuru route
Nairobi-Mai Mahiu-Narok-Nakuru-Western Kenya route
“Given the current heavy rains, drivers should remain vigilant for localized flooding along several corridors,” the National Transport and Safety Authority spokesperson noted.

Rally fans are urged to view the event only from designated spectator zones and to comply with instructions from security officers and event marshals.
Accessing restricted tracks or operational areas is strictly prohibited.
“The cooperation of rally enthusiasts and residents is crucial. Observing safety guidelines will not only protect lives but also ensure the successful hosting of this prestigious event,” said a rally official.
