KRA Names Mohamed Abdul M’maka Commissioner for Investigations and Enforcement

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has named Mohamed Abdul M’maka as the new commissioner for investigations and enforcement.

His appointment comes after interviews for the position were conducted on March 11, 2026.

According to KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga, the KRA Board approved M’maka’s appointment with effect from March 11, 2026.

M’maka’s appointment follows the retirement of the officer he replaces.

The newly appointed Commissioner for Investigations and Enforcement is an intelligence professional with over 21 years of extensive experience in intelligence tradecraft, strategic security leadership, and national defence.

M’maka currently works as the Chief Manager in charge of intelligence collection at the Kenya Revenue Authority, a role he assumed in August 2025.

Before taking up the position, he served in several other senior roles within the authority, including Chief Manager for Intelligence Coordination and Operations as well as Chief Manager for Intelligence Exchange, where he played a key role in enhancing intelligence-sharing frameworks and enforcement activities.

Career of the Newly Appointed Commissioners

Before joining KRA, M’maka held a number of high-level security and intelligence positions across both public and private sector institutions. He previously served as Chief Security Officer at Kenya Power and Lighting Company. At Kenya Airways, he worked as Manager for Security Protection and Integrity and later as Coordinator for Information and Integrity.

His earlier career also includes serving as a Senior Intelligence Officer and Investigator at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). In addition, he worked with the Kenya Defence Forces as a Field Intelligence Manager and Troop Commander.

M’maka holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategy from the National Defence University of Kenya, a Master of Arts in Security Management from Egerton University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Kenyatta University.

He is also a Certified Security Manager and is affiliated with the International Security Management Institute and the Association of Corporate and Industrial Security Management Professionals.

M’maka has also undergone specialised intelligence training and collaborated with several international agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), Mossad, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), as well as Australia’s Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS) and Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).
