Ruto Appoints New National Land Commission Chair, Six Commissioners

President William Ruto has made new appointments at the National Land Commission.
In a Special Gazette Notice dated March 12, 2026, the National Land Commission Act (Cap. 281) was invoked by President William Samoei Ruto, appointing a new Chairperson and six commissioners to serve on the National Land Commission (NLC) for a term of six years.
Dr. Abdillahi Saggaf Alawy has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Land Commission.
His role will include guiding the Commission’s strategic direction and oversight of land management reforms across the country.

The appointment takes effect from March 11, 2026.

Commissioners to Steer National Land Policies
In addition to the Chairperson, six new members were named to the Commission.
These appointees bring varied expertise relevant to land governance, policy development, dispute resolution, and community land issues.
The newly appointed members are:
- Susan Khakasa Oyatsi
- Daniel Murithi Muriungi
- Kigen Vincent Cheruiyot
- Julie Ouma Oseko (Dr.)
- Mohamed Abdi Haji Mohamed
- Mary Tiane Seneta
According to Gazette Notice No. 3390, these appointments are also effective for six years.

What This Means for Land Governance
The National Land Commission (NLC) is a constitutional body tasked with:
- Managing public land on behalf of all Kenyans
- Recommending a national land policy

With these new appointments, the Commission looks set to reinforce implementation of key reforms in land administration and work toward transparency in land allocation processes.
