The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption along the Thika Superhighway.
In a notice dated March 12, 2026, KeNHA Director General, Luka Kimeli, said the road will be partially closed at Globe Roundabout for seven days to allow reinstatement works on the bridge over the Nairobi River.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that Thika Superhighway shall be partially closed at Globe Roundabout to enable the reinstatement works at the Nairobi River bridge as from Thursday, March 12, 2026, to Thursday, March 19, 2026,” read part of the notice.
According to KeNHA, the temporary closure will take effect from Thursday, March 12, to Thursday, March 19, 2026, during which engineers will carry out stabilisation and repair works on the affected infrastructure.
The Authority said several alternative routes and traffic management measures will be implemented to ease movement for motorists during the period.
Traffic heading towards the Nairobi Central Business District from Thika will be redirected to use the Globe Overpass, while motorists travelling from Thika to University Way will be required to use Prof. Wangari Maathai Road.
Drivers moving from Thika towards Kirinyaga Road and OTC will be diverted through Ring Road, while traffic from Kipande Road heading to the CBD will be redirected to use Limuru Road (Fig Tree) before joining Prof. Wangari Maathai Road.
Motorists travelling from University Way or the CBD intending to make a U-turn at Globe Roundabout will instead be required to proceed to the Guru Nanak U-Turn.

KeNHA noted that additional traffic control measures, lane management, or diversions may be introduced as technical investigations and stabilisation works continue.
The authority has urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching the construction area, to follow the proposed traffic management plan, and to cooperate with traffic police and marshals deployed on site.
