Ndindi Nyoro Speaks Out Amid Reports of Arrest

Share

Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro has broken his silence following claims that he had been arrested.

In a statement dated Friday, March 13, 2026, the Kiharu legislator dismissed the information as false.

He clarified that the video currently circulating on social media was from an arrest that occurred during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

“We have no idea of the motive behind this inaccurate information. The video is from 2019. I’m fine and well. Thank you, everyone, for your concern,” said Nyoro.

Nyoro added that he is currently overseeing the construction of laboratories at Karemaini Secondary School in his constituency.

“We’ll be launching three laboratories at Karemaini Secondary School in the morning. We are African, and Africa is our business,” said the Kiharu legislator.

Nyoro’s response comes hours after various social media influencers shared videos across different platforms showing him being arrested by police officers.

Why the Kiharu Legislator Has Been Criticising Ruto’s Government

In the videos, the legislator was accompanied by his lawyer and Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, who at the time was Murang’a Senator.

For some time, the Kiharu legislator has been a fierce critic of President William Ruto’s administration.

His criticism contributed to his removal as Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in the National Assembly around March 2025, during a reconstitution of committees in which allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, including Nyoro, were demoted or replaced. He was succeeded by Sam Atandi, MP for Alego Usonga.

Nyoro has accused the Ruto administration of borrowing faster and more recklessly than during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s era, calling Kenya’s rising debt an “existential threat.”

He has criticised excessive government borrowing, misaligned spending priorities, the failure to prioritise education funding as promised during the 2022 campaigns, and what he describes as “disrespecting the people” through unpopular decisions.

He has also opposed initiatives such as the National Infrastructure Fund, warning that it could encourage more borrowing rather than genuine development. Additionally, Nyoro has questioned the valuation and potential undervaluation of government stakes in assets such as Safaricom shares during sales or deals.
