Share

Six individuals have been convicted in connection with the murder of former Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai, his two bodyguards and driver.

The convictions were secured by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions after the court found the suspects guilty of several offences linked to the 2015 killing.

Those convicted are Erick Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani, Stephen Asitiva, Jane Wanjiru and Margaret Njeri.

The accused persons faced multiple charges including robbery with violence, possession of a firearm without a valid firearm certificate and possession of ammunition without a valid firearm certificate.

Robbery with Violence

The court found Erick Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani and Stephen Asitiva guilty on three counts of robbery with violence.

“On the nights of February 6 and 7, 2015, the four violently robbed Michael Ngatia, Gladys Waithera and Irene Muthoni in separate incidents while threatening to use violence against them.” The Prosecutor said.

Investigators told the court that the suspects carried out the robberies in a coordinated manner, targeting victims and threatening them with violence before making away with their valuables.

Property Worth Ksh 1.1 Million Stolen

During the robberies, the suspects stole property valued at approximately Ksh 1.1 million.

The court documents indicated that the stolen items included two motor vehicles, a gas cylinder, four mobile phones, a laptop and cash.

Prosecutors further told the court that the stolen property was taken from the victims during separate incidents that occurred on the same nights, highlighting what investigators described as a pattern of organised criminal activity.

Firearm and Ammunition Charges

In addition, Munyera, Margaret Njeri and Jane Wanjiru were convicted separately for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The prosecution stated that the convictions were secured after presenting a strong case supported by multiple witnesses and exhibits presented during the trial.

“The convictions were secured after testimony from 36 witnesses whose evidence linked the accused persons to the crimes.” The Prosecutor stated.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said the evidence presented before the court helped establish the role played by each of the accused persons in the offences.

The case was prosecuted by Willy Momanyi and sentencing for the six convicted individuals is scheduled to be delivered on March 18, 2026.
