A public transport operator based in Nairobi has released a statement regarding a viral incident involving one of its vehicles, a driver, and a woman who was filmed in a widely shared video that was originally posted two days ago.
The management of the Buruburu 58 Travellers Sacco has stated that they are aware of the video that is circulating on various social media sites after an incident of confrontation happened on March 11, 2026.
In a statement, the Sacco confirmed that the incident involved one of its motor vehicles but sought to correct several claims circulating online regarding what transpired between the individuals involved.
“Buruburu 58 Travellers Sacco is aware of a video currently circulating on various social media platforms regarding an incident that occurred on 11th March 2026, involving one of our motor vehicles, a driver and a lady,” the Sacco said in the statement.
The clarification came as the video continued to draw widespread public attention, with initial reports on social media suggesting that the confrontation was linked to a fare dispute involving missing change after the woman allegedly paid with a large denomination note.
In its statement, the Sacco disputed claims that the woman involved had boarded the vehicle or was owed any fare balance as earlier alleged online.
“That the said lady and her child never boarded the said motor vehicle as alleged and as such, no fare change was owed to her,” the management clarified.
Early accounts circulating online had claimed the dispute began after the woman reportedly paid Ksh 1,000 and failed to receive change from the matatu crew, sparking the confrontation.
However, the Sacco’s management insisted the disagreement had a different background, stating that the individuals involved were not strangers.
“The lady and the driver are well known to each other and are said to have a daughter together, who was also captured in the video wearing a school uniform.”
Investigations by police have also indicated that the driver and the woman knew each other personally and share a child, suggesting the dispute may have stemmed from a domestic disagreement rather than a fare issue.

The Sacco further explained that the disagreement escalated from a personal conflict between the two individuals rather than a public transport transaction.
“That the disagreement between the two (the lady and the driver) arose from a domestic dispute, which unfortunately escalated, resulting in malicious damage to the motor vehicle.”
Videos circulating online show the woman smashing the windscreen of the matatu during the confrontation, an act that sparked heated debate among social media users over responsibility and possible legal consequences.
The operator emphasized that the matter had already been reported to authorities, and investigations were ongoing.
“That the matter has since been reported at Central Police Station, and the Sacco is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities as investigations into the incident continue.”
