Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has raised concerns over the deteriorating state of infrastructure at Wilson Airport, terming the situation a matter of national concern that requires urgent attention.
Speaking at Parliament Buildings on Friday, March 13, 2026, Osotsi sought a statement from the Senate Committee on Roads, Transport, and Housing regarding the condition of key facilities at the airport.
He raised the matter pursuant to Standing Order 53(1) of the Senate Standing Orders.
The lawmaker asked the committee to investigate and establish the current status of critical infrastructure at the airport, including the runway, drainage systems, rescue and firefighting equipment, air traffic control systems, and power backup installations.
He further requested details on the steps being taken by the Ministry of Roads and Transport, the Kenya Airports Authority, and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority to address what he described as the dilapidated state of some facilities to ensure compliance with international aviation safety standards.
In his request to the committee, the Senator said the agencies responsible for the management and regulation of the airport should clearly outline the actions being taken to restore and maintain the infrastructure.
Senator Osotsi also raised alarm over buildings and other developments around the airport that exceed the prescribed height limits, warning that they could pose risks to aviation safety.
