The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has listed areas likely to receive heavy rainfall in its seven-day weather forecast for March 17 to 23, 2026, published on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The forecast comes days after the country experienced heavy rainfall over the weekend, causing floods in several areas, particularly on Saturday, March 14, including parts of Nairobi.
According to Kenya Met, rainfall is expected over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Coastal region, with increased intensity from Thursday.
Isolated heavy rainfall events are also likely to occur in parts of these regions.
At the same time, sunny and dry conditions are expected in parts of north-eastern and north-western Kenya, although occasional rainfall may still be experienced.
Daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in several parts of the country, including the Coast, north-eastern and north-western regions.

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley regions, Kenya Met forecasts mainly sunny intervals at the beginning of the period.
Morning rains are likely to occur in a few places, especially from Thursday, while afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected in some areas, occasionally spreading to several places.
Counties in these regions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok.
In Turkana and Samburu counties, sunny and dry conditions are expected at the beginning of the forecast period.
However, morning rains, as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms, may occur in a few places and occasionally spread to several areas.
For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which include Nairobi and its surrounding areas, morning rains are expected in a few places.
Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are also likely, occasionally spreading to several areas.
Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
In north-eastern Kenya, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, sunny and dry conditions are expected at the start of the forecast period.
However, morning rains and afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur in a few places and occasionally spread to several areas.

South-Eastern Lowlands
Elsewhere, the South-eastern lowlands, which include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, are expected to experience mostly sunny and dry conditions at the beginning.
Morning rains are likely to occur in a few places, especially from Thursday, while afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may develop and spread.
Coastal Region
In the Coastal region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the Tana Delta, morning, afternoon, and night showers are expected in a few places.
