Correspondents working for Mediamax Networks Limited have announced a strike over unpaid dues spanning two years, escalating a dispute between the journalists and their employer.
According to a close source that spoke to Hivileo.co.ke, the journalists have been struggling with the prolonged delay in payments, which has significantly affected their personal and family lives.
Some correspondents are reported to be battling depression, others have experienced family breakdowns, while many struggle to pay debts and meet basic needs.
The financial strain has also impacted their children, with some reportedly being sent home from school due to unpaid fees.
“This situation is no longer sustainable.” The correspondents said, reflecting growing frustration among the staff.
The journalists have since planned a peaceful protest on Friday, March 20, 2026, outside the company’s premises.
The demonstration is expected to bring together journalists from across the country, all united in demanding payment of their two-year arrears.
The staff also called for coordination with the police to ensure security during the protest, emphasizing that the action will remain peaceful despite their frustrations.
“We will make arrangements with the police and equip them well as we expect to turn up in large numbers, united in our call for justice.” The source added.

The strike places mounting pressure on Mediamax Networks Limited to address the grievances raised by its correspondents, who form a critical part of the company’s news-gathering network.
The situation also shows the broader challenges in the media industry, where some journalists, especially correspondents, face irregular payments and difficult working conditions.
