Kenya’s passport has registered an improvement in global rankings in 2026, amid public concerns over alleged issuance to foreigners, including figures linked to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to the latest report released by the Henley Passport Index on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Kenyan passport ranked 64th globally in March 2026, granting holders access to 69 destinations without a prior visa
This marks an improvement compared to October 2025, when Kenya had slipped to around 73rd position globally, with passport holders able to access about 70 destinations without a prior visa.
From the latest report, Singapore tops the Henley Passport Index March 2026 rankings, offering visa-free access to a record 192 destinations. Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates share second place with 187 destinations, followed by Sweden in third with 186.
Fourth place is shared by Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland, each with access to 185 destinations.

In fifth place are Austria, Greece, Malta, and Portugal (184 destinations), followed by Hungary, Malaysia, Poland, and the United Kingdom in sixth (183).
Seventh place includes Australia, Canada, Czechia, Latvia, New Zealand, Slovakia, and Slovenia (182), while Croatia and Estonia rank eighth (181).
Liechtenstein and Lithuania take ninth place (180), and Iceland and the United States close the top ten with 179 destinations.
The improved ranking comes at a time when authorities are under pressure to address claims that Kenyan passports have been issued irregularly to non-citizens.
Reports suggesting that individuals linked to the RSF may have obtained Kenyan travel documents have sparked public debate over the integrity of the country’s immigration system.
The government has yet to provide a detailed account of the allegations, but the issue has raised concerns about national security and the credibility of Kenyan identification documents.

However, while appearing before the Administration and Internal Security Committee during the consideration of Supplementary Estimates No. 1 for the 2025/26 financial year on Monday, March 16, 2026, Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang of the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services denied the claims.
“On the issuance of some of these documents to non-Kenyans, I want to assure everybody that we only issue these documents to Kenyans, mainly IDs and birth certificates, and you cannot get any other documents unless you have the IDs and the birth certificates,” said Kipsang.
