Britam Board Chair Kuria Muchiru Dies

Kuria Muchiru, the Chair of Britam Holdings PLC, has passed away.

His death was announced by the Board of Directors and Management of Britam Holdings, who stated that he died on Thursday, March 19, 2026, after a short illness.

“The Britam Board of Directors and Management of Britam Holdings PLC is saddened to announce the passing of our Group Board Chairman, Mr. Kuria Muchiru, who passed away today, March 19, 2026, after a short illness,” the board said in a statement.

The company also extended its condolences to Muchiru’s family following his demise.

“On behalf of the entire Britam family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him. May God rest his soul in eternal peace,” the statement added.

Kenyans Mourn Kuria Muchiru

Following news of his death, several leaders and professionals paid tribute to the late chairman, praising his leadership and legacy.

Rebecca Miano led the tributes, saying: “Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Britam fraternity. His visionary leadership will forever be cherished.”

Former ambassador Tom Amolo also shared a personal tribute, recalling their long-standing friendship and describing Muchiru as a close companion.

“Oh dear! My boyhood chum. Grew up playing “shake” &“baano”. Nosi & I hosted him & his large, wonderful family in Berlin in August 2022 for the wedding of his son Muchiru to Elisabeth.A true “Jamaa wa mta”, hapo “Mariaee”. We are in tears.Pole Muthoni, Muchiru,Mukami AND family,” said the former Ambassador.

Corporate finance and governance expert Josephine Ngure said: “Very sad news. My sincere condolences to the family and all his loved ones. RIP Kuria.”

Media and communications practitioner Gregory Otieno added: “Very sad. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Profile of the Britam Board Chair

Kuria Muchiru was a seasoned business leader with decades of experience in corporate governance, human resource transformation, and financial advisory.

Before his demise, Muchiru served as Chairman of Britam Holdings PLC since 2022. Muchiru also held chairmanship roles at Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL) and ICWOAL, while serving as Executive Chairman of Kuria Capital, a firm he founded in 2018.

Before transitioning into board leadership, he spent 35 years at PwC, where he rose to the position of Advisory Partner, specialising in human resource transformation and capital advisory. He held a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi and was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) as well as a certified HR practitioner.
