The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has warned that several parts of the country are set to experience heavy rainfall within the next 24 hours, raising concerns over possible flooding and disruption.
In an advisory shared via its official platforms, Kenya Met indicated that ongoing rains are expected to intensify, with some regions likely to record more than 20mm of rainfall in a single day.
According to the agency, the heavy downpour is expected to affect regions including the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, as well as parts of Nairobi and surrounding counties.
The Weatherman has warned that the expected rainfall may lead to flash floods, poor visibility, and transport disruptions, especially in low-lying and urban areas.
It further cautioned that even areas that may not receive heavy rainfall directly could still experience flooding due to runoff from upstream regions.
Kenya Met has urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to avoid loss of life and property.
“Residents are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods and flash floods.” The statement read.
Motorists and pedestrians have been cautioned against attempting to cross flooded roads or walking through moving water, as this poses significant danger.
