Prominent Individuals Who Studied at Murang’a University of Technology

Share

Murang’a University of Technology (MUT), a public university chartered in 2016, is quickly building a reputation as a hub for innovation and professional excellence in Kenya.

Though relatively young, the university is producing graduates making significant impacts across various sectors.

Unlike older universities with long-established alumni networks, MUT is still developing widely recognized public figures.

However, its graduates are increasingly gaining attention in areas such as renewable energy, cybersecurity, research, entrepreneurship, and public service.

Among the emerging alumni is Dr. Paul Njoroge, who leads renewable energy projects expanding access to clean power in rural communities.

His work has helped increase the adoption of solar energy solutions across underserved areas.

Eng. Mary Wanjiku, CEO of AgriTech Kenya, is developing smart farming technologies that improve productivity for smallholder farmers.

In academia, Prof. James Kariuki serves as a vice chancellor at a regional institution, advancing engineering education and institutional growth.

Alumni Driving Social Impact and Governance

“Most of life isn’t about feeling confident or having everything figured out. It’s about showing up while you’re unsure, trying even when you don’t feel ready, and learning as you go. People rarely move forward because they feel capable; they become capable by moving forward anyway.” Said Mwongela Rhoda Kavutha, popularly known as BossBaby Mental Health Advocate.

“If you are willing, do it right now, doubting yourself, or wondering how everyone else seems to know what they’re doing, you’re not behind. You’re doing exactly what everyone else is doing too.” She added.

Rhoda studied Linguistics and Communication at MUT as a member of the Class of 2024.

Currently, she serves as the Private Secretary and Senior Office Administrator in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Murang’a County.

A trained journalist and mental health advocate, she uses her platform to raise awareness about emotional well-being while also contributing to public service.

In politics, Hon. Esther Muthoni, a Member of the County Assembly in Murang’a, advocates for youth empowerment and technology integration in governance.

Meanwhile, Dr. David Kimani, a researcher at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization, focuses on food security through biotechnology, particularly developing drought-resistant crops.

The technology sector is represented by Susan Njeri, a cybersecurity consultant helping organizations prevent cyber threats.

Joseph Mwangi has made strides in agribusiness, supporting farmers and strengthening agricultural value chains.

Building a Legacy for the Future

While MUT may not yet have household names among its alumni, the impact of its graduates is steadily growing. As more alumni rise through professional ranks and take on leadership roles, the university is expected to produce nationally and internationally recognized figures.

“At MUT, studying Linguistics and Communication taught me how to connect, advocate, and make an impact in both media and public service.” Adds BossBaby.

For now, Murang’a University of Technology stands out not for fame but for its promise: nurturing a generation of professionals by shaping Kenya’s future across multiple sectors.
