Kenya Met Names 6 Regions to Receive Heavy Rainfall Over the Next Five Days

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a five-day weather forecast for the period of March 20 to March 24, 2026, outlining regions expected to receive heavy rainfall.

The forecast, issued on Friday, March 21, follows heavy rains witnessed in several parts of the country.

According to Kenya Met, the regions of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to experience morning rains in a few areas.

Afternoon conditions will be characterised by showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period, while nights are likely to have showers in isolated places.

Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

In the northwestern region, which comprises Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings are expected to have rain in a few places, with afternoons likely to experience showers and thunderstorms. Nights will also see showers in isolated areas.

Weather Forecast for Nairobi and its Environs

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its environs, mornings are expected to have a chance of rain in a few places. Afternoons will be marked by showers and thunderstorms across several areas, while nights are likely to experience showers in many places.

Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.

Kenya Met Forecast for Northeastern Region

For the northeastern region, comprising Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, mornings are expected to experience rain in a few places.

Afternoons will be dominated by showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period, while nights will have showers in isolated areas.

Southeastern and Coastal Regions

In the southeastern lowlands region, which includes Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County, mornings are expected to have a chance of rain in a few places.

Afternoons will see showers and thunderstorms across the region, while nights will experience showers in some areas.

In the coastal region, comprising Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the Tana Delta, Kenya Met forecasts showers in a few places during the mornings, afternoons, and nights throughout the forecast period.
