Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has been reported missing under circumstances that have raised alarm among his family and close associates, following a series of events suggesting he feared for his safety.

According to information obtained by the family, Tuju had expressed concern about being followed just a day before he went missing.

On Saturday, March 21, 2026, he reported to Karen Police Station that a white Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series without license plates had trailed him the previous day. The report was recorded under Occurrence Book number OB 21/21/03/2026.

Later that evening, Tuju was scheduled to appear on Ramogi FM at around 7 p.m., but failed to go on air, raising initial concern among those expecting him.

Family members say he was last seen on Saturday afternoon. Since then, his phone has remained switched off, cutting off all communication.

The situation escalated on Sunday morning when Tuju’s son, Mano Tuju, received a call from the Officer Commanding Station at Karen Police Station while attending church. He was informed that his father’s vehicle had been found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Nairobi’s Karen area.

Following the discovery, the family filed a missing person report at Karen Police Station under OB 17/22/03/2026.

The sequence of events has intensified concern over his whereabouts and prompted questions about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter, and efforts to locate the former Cabinet Secretary are ongoing.

Tuju Dispute over his Prime Land in Karen

Tuju, a former Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, had been at the center of public attention in recent weeks due to a protracted dispute over his prime land in Karen.

The dispute escalated into a dramatic eviction from his property, with Tuju alleging that unnamed powerful individuals were behind attempts to forcefully take over his assets.

In an interview with NTV Kenya on March 17, Tuju recounted how he acquired the Karen property more than four decades ago, at a time when the area was largely undeveloped.

He said he secured his first parcel through a loan from the National Bank of Kenya, with land priced at about Ksh100,000 per acre.

However, the minimum purchase requirement stood at Ksh250,000, forcing him to borrow Ksh180,000 and raise the remaining Ksh60,000 through personal means, including selling his car.

“The first time I bought land in Karen was 40 years ago, and it was Ksh100,000 per acre. I took a loan from the National Bank. The minimum you could buy in Karen at that time was Ksh250,000. I took a loan of Ksh180,000,” Tuju said in the interview.

Over the years, he expanded his property portfolio to other prime locations, including Upper Hill, where land values have significantly appreciated. He later acquired a 20-acre parcel in Karen, which was developed into high-end residential and hospitality projects through associated firms.

The development was financed in 2015 through a Ksh1.2 billion loan, with about Ksh900 million used to acquire the land and the remainder invested in infrastructure, including wellness facilities and commercial spaces.

Despite the ongoing dispute, Tuju has maintained that he is willing to settle all outstanding debts, insisting that he has not refused to pay but is demanding transparency from all parties involved.

His disappearance now adds a new and unsettling dimension to the already contentious saga, raising urgent questions about his whereabouts and the circumstances leading up to his sudden silence.
