The widow of the late Johana Ng’eno has withdrawn from the race to succeed him as Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikir constituency due to what her family says are personal reasons.
Naiyanoi Ntuntu had earlier been among those being endorsed by leaders and residents to contest the seat after her husband’s death.
Her decision to step down follows consultations among leaders associated with the late MP as political alignments begin to take shape in the constituency.
Ng’eno died on February 28, 2026, following a helicopter crash in Nandi County that claimed six lives.

His death created a vacancy in the Emurua Dikir parliamentary seat and called for preparations for a by-election in line with constitutional requirements.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has therefore scheduled the by-election for May 14, 2026, with the electoral body indicating that the exercise is expected to cost approximately Sh59 million.
Naiyanoi backs down
Before her withdrawal, Ntuntu had been listed among several individuals expressing interest in the seat, alongside political associates of the late MP and other aspirants from across the constituency.
Earlier proposals by some leaders to have the constituency rally behind her as a candidate had caused discussion locally, with her supporters citing continuity of leadership, while others on the other hand, called for an open contest to include other people aspiring to be MPs.
Her decision to withdraw comes after her family says she is not well because she just lost her husband. The family spokesperson, David Ngetich, says.
However, the move does not affect the eligibility of other aspirants who have declared their interest in the seat as preparations for the by-elections continue.
