Raphael Tuju Reveals Chilling Experience After Mysterious Hours-Long Disappearance

Share

In a chilling account, former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has narrated a tale of alleged surveillance and a daring escape after he claimed he went missing mysteriously for several hours at the weekend.

In his first public account of the incident, Tuju explained how he first got wind of the alleged surveillance, stating, “I was Being followed, because it’s easy to know when you’re being followed.”

He further explained the sequence of events, stating, “You drive, you slow down, they slow down, you overtake, they try to overtake.”

In his account, Tuju said he took immediate action in the alleged surveillance incident, seeking help from authorities.

“And after that incident, of course, I reported to Karen police station,” he said, adding, “the reference OB was on Friday 21/21/03/2026.”

He further emphasized his state of mind at the time, stating, “And I did explain to them that I was a little bit concerned and worried that I’m being followed.”

Escalation of Events

Tuju indicated that the situation escalated the following day when he was scheduled for a media engagement.

“Unfortunately, on Saturday evening, I was supposed to be going for an interview at Ramogi Radio,” he said, adding, “I had made a commitment to go there.”

He described encountering the same suspicious vehicle again, noting heightened concern.

“Then again, the same vehicle, a Land Cruiser, and this time a little bit more,” he explained.

He further claimed irregularities, stating, “But as far as I’m concerned, the vehicle didn’t have plate numbers.”

Drawing parallels with a previous incident, Tuju remarked, “And having experienced last week, when close to 20 police Land Rovers came to my premises, and some of them didn’t have plate numbers, so I got very worried.”

Dramatic Escape in Karen

Tuju narrated how events intensified as he drove through Nairobi’s Karen area.

“I happened to have my aide next to me. But I was the one driving. I tend to drive myself very often,” he said.

He added that the situation became critical near a major junction: “And by the time I reached Karen roundabout, they really closed in.”

He described the pursuit in detail, saying, “And now they’re definitely making sure they’re back to back with me.”

Leveraging his familiarity with the area, Tuju managed to evade the alleged pursuers.

“So fortunately, I know Karen well. I branched into Nandi Road. They were not able to branch into Nandi Road.”

Explaining the terrain, he noted, “If you go, you can see how that road is. Structured there.”

This, he said, limited the pursuers’ options: “So it meant that they either had to turn and face the oncoming traffic to follow me, or they had to go round.”

Shelter and Safe Return

Tuju explained that he took more precautions after evading the vehicle.

“But I lost them. Of course, I went into some roads within Karen,” he said.

He further explained that he took a decisive action in the interest of safety.

“And I realized that since I was being followed, I’d already reported to the police. I abandoned the vehicle there.”

He appreciated those who helped him in his ordeal.

“I want to thank Kenyans, but I also especially want to thank a family in Kiambu, the boundary between here and Kiambu,” he said.

He used the opportunity to highlight the compassion of the Kenyan family.

“That were able to give me shelter. They didn’t care what my tribe is. They just saw me as a human being.”

He ended his narrative by confirming his safe return. “Until yesterday past midnight, when I was able to come here.”

The authorities have not issued a comprehensive statement on the issue, as there are doubts about the identity of the alleged pursuers.
