KeNHA Sets Record Straight on Viral Kilifi Bridge Crack Image

Share

The Kenya National Highways Authority has issued a public notice regarding the circulation of misinformation in the form of an image purporting to show damage to the Kilifi Bridge.

In this case, the Kenya National Highways Authority has stepped in to clarify misinformation circulating among the public following the spread of the image on social media.

The agency issued a public notice on March 23, 2026, clarifying that the picture in circulation was a fake and did not show an actual picture of the bridge.

According to the notice, the Kenya National Highways Authority has tight control over the state of the country’s infrastructure to ensure that the roads are in top condition.

In this case, the notice also highlights the risks associated with misinformation in the digital age, especially in cases where artificial intelligence has been used to spread misinformation.

Misleading Image Sparks Concern

“It has come to our attention that a misleading AI-generated image depicting a cracked underbelly of the Kilifi Bridge is circulating on various platforms,” KeNHA says.

The Authority further reassured Kenyans that such claims are unfounded and do not correspond with on-the-ground assessments conducted by its engineers and technical teams.

Assurance on Infrastructure Safety

KeNHA highlighted that all critical infrastructure undergoes regular evaluation to meet safety standards, dismissing any suggestion that the bridge is compromised.
