Most Expensive KUCCPS Degree Courses to Consider

As thousands of students continue to follow placement updates from the KUCCPS, now conversations in many Kenyan homes are no longer just about cluster points and grades but also the cost of the courses at the university.

In Kenya’s universities, the most expensive programmes are largely concentrated in health sciences and technical fields, where training requires using laboratories, clinical exposure and longer years of studying.

Leading the list is the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), one of the most costly undergraduate programmes in Kenya.

This course can cost approximately KSh 600,000 to KSh 780,000 per year, depending on the university and training requirements. It is offered at institutions such as the University of Nairobi and Moi University.

Health Sciences

Surprisingly, this programme has a lot of students, even with the high cost and the six-year training period, many students pursue it because of its specialised career path and strong earning potential.

Closely following is the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB), another costly programme that typically runs for six years.

Annual costs can range between Ksh 500,000 and Ksh 650,000. The programme is available at universities including the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University and Egerton University.

Other science-based programmes, such as the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, which is offered at the University of Nairobi and Egerton University, can cost roughly Ksh 450,000 to Ksh 550,000 per year.

Similarly, the Bachelor of Pharmacy, available at institutions including Kenyatta University and University of Nairobi, averages Ksh 400,000 to Ksh 500,000 annually due to laboratory-intensive training requirements.

Engineering Courses

Engineering courses are also among the most expensive options. Degrees such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, offered at universities like Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Moi University and University of Nairobi, can cost between Ksh 300,000 and Ksh 450,000 per year. These programmes require extensive workshop sessions, fieldwork and also equipment.

Technical Courses

Creative technical courses such as Architecture, which are offered at the University of Nairobi and JKUAT, also fall within this bracket, with annual costs averaging around Ksh 300,000 to Ksh 400,000. Students also cater for additional money in studio materials and project work if needed.

Outside the science category, programmes like Actuarial Science and Law are among the relatively costly professional degree courses.

Law programmes at universities such as the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University typically cost about Ksh 230,000 to Ksh 260,000 annually,this is excluding the additional training required later at the Kenya School of Law.
