Kalonzo Speaks on Whether 2027 Will Be His Final Presidential Bid

Share

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed claims that the 2027 General Election could mark his final attempt at the presidency, stating that his focus remains on practicality, preparation, and unity among Kenyans.

Speaking during Citizen Sunday Live, Kalonzo emphasized that winning the presidency is not an individual effort but a collective national responsibility.

“Not really, I think it is being practical, and we have done all the necessary preparations; you cannot win alone, it is the responsibility of every Kenyan,” he said.

Economic Reforms Top His Agenda

Kalonzo outlined key policy priorities he would implement if elected president, including scrapping controversial taxes that he says have made Kenya less attractive for investment.

“Executive order number one, the housing levy will be out and other taxes that make Kenya very unattractive,” he stated.

He further drew comparisons with global economies, noting that corruption remains a major stumbling block to Kenya’s progress.

“You cannot go to Singapore with the level of corruption you have in this country,” Kalonzo added.

Confirms Presidential Bid

The Wiper Party leader confirmed that he is officially in the race for the top seat, revealing that he received the mandate to run in October last year.

“I am running for President. I was given the mandate on the 10th of October last year, the mandate to seek the high office, and prayerfully we have accepted and we are ready for it psychologically,” he said.

Kalonzo expressed confidence in his preparedness and support base, insisting that Kenyans are ready for change.

Coalition Talks and ‘Ukombozi’ Narrative

Kalonzo also revealed that discussions are underway to form a strong opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

He linked his bid to a broader liberation agenda, often referred to as “ukombozi.”

“We are in the process of forming a formidable coalition. I hear the word ukombozi, it is time to liberate this country,” he said.

He added that his success will largely depend on support from his political allies.

“I can do it, if my colleagues take that decision. I do expect that my colleagues will give me that respect,” he noted.

Sends Warning to Ruto

Further, Kalonzo suggested that a united opposition could unseat President William Ruto in 2027.

“If they do, William Ruto will be one term, and he knows it,” Kalonzo declared.
