Kenya Meets CAF Requirements to Host AFCON 2027

The Government of Kenya has confirmed that it has fully met its financial and institutional obligations to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking a major milestone as the country prepares to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations 2027.

According to the SportsCS Salim Mvurya, Kenya has steadily progressed in its preparations, reaffirming its commitment to delivering a successful continental tournament.

“I am pleased to announce that the Government of Kenya has fully met its financial and institutional obligations to CAF as we steadily advance towards co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.”

Kenya Remits USD 30 Million Hosting Fee

In a significant step, the government has remitted the required USD 30 million (approximately Ksh 4 billion) hosting fee to CAF.

This payment highlights Kenya’s readiness and credibility on the continental stage.

“The Government has remitted the requisite USD 30 million hosting fee to CAF, reaffirming Kenya’s credibility, readiness, and unwavering commitment to delivering a successful continental tournament.”

Multi-Agency Committee to Drive Preparations

To streamline preparations, the government has established a restructured Multi-Agency Local Organizing Committee.

The committee brings together key stakeholders from both public and private sectors to ensure efficient delivery across all critical areas.

This coordinated approach aims to align Kenya’s institutional capacity with the scale and urgency required to host a tournament of AFCON’s magnitude.

Infrastructure Upgrades and Compliance Measures

Following a CAF inspection report, Kenya is set to fast-track infrastructure development and operational requirements.

Key areas include upgrading match venues, training facilities, transport systems, and enhancing safety, security, and broadcast standards.

“This is a routine but critical process in the hosting cycle, and Kenya is addressing each recommendation with precision, urgency, and accountability.”

Ruto’s Vision for Sports-Led Growth

The milestone reflects the commitment of William Ruto to position Kenya as a global sporting hub. The government aims to leverage AFCON 2027 to drive economic growth, create jobs, and empower youth.

“This milestone reflects the firm commitment of H.E. President William Ruto to position our Kenya as a premier destination for global sporting events and leverage sports as a catalyst for economic growth, youth empowerment, job creation, and international prestige,” reads part of the statement.

Pamoja Co-Hosting Countries Plan Seamless Experience

Kenya, alongside its Pamoja co-hosting partners, has pledged to deliver a world-class tournament that exceeds expectations.

Plans are underway to harmonize regional frameworks that will ease movement and logistics during the competition.

These include visa facilitation, coordinated tax exemptions, customs support, and streamlined clearance processes for teams, officials, fans, and stakeholders.

“We remain fully committed to delivering a world-class AFCON 2027 that will not only meet but exceed continental and global expectations,” the statement read.
