Sorrow as MP Owen Baya’s Mother Dies

Kilifi North Member of Parliament (MP) Owen Baya is in mourning following the passing of his mother, Mama Dorothy Baya Mweri.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi expressed his condolences, describing Mama Dorothy as a woman celebrated for her warmth, kindness, and welcoming personality.

“Her love for family, education, religion, and mentorship of many earned her admiration and respect in equal measure,” Kingi said in a statement.

He extended his heartfelt sympathies to Hon. Owen Baya, Bishop Alphonse Mwaro, and the entire Canon Mweri family, praying that God grant Mama Dorothy eternal peace.

Mama Dorothy Baya Mweri’s legacy of compassion, mentorship, and dedication to her community will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Condolences Messages To The Berieved

“The passing on of Mama Dorothy Baya Mweri, mother of Kilifi North MP Hon. Owen Baya Mweri, has left us all devastated. Mama Dorothy was known and treasured for her warmth, kindness and welcoming personality.” Kingi added.

Owen Baya is currently serving his second term as the Kilifi North Member of Parliament and holds the position of Deputy Majority Leader in the National Assembly, this places him among key figures in the leadership of government business in the house.

Since he first won the seat in 2017 and retaining it in the 2022 general election, he has remained to be an influential voice on matters that affect the Coast region, especially education, youth empowerment and development initiatives within Kilifi County.

Before joining elective politics, Baya served in public administration and academics, including serving as County Secretary in Kilifi and earlier role at Pwani University where he worked in senior administrative arena.

His rise through public service into national leadership has seen him build a reputation as a grassroots mobiliser and policy advocate, making the loss of his mother a deeply personal moment even as leaders across the country continue to stand with him and his family during this difficult time.

Mama Dorothy Remembered In Kind Messages

Leaders from the Coast region and also across the country have continued to send messages of support to the Kilifi North member of parliament, describing Mama Dorothy as a pillar not only within her family but also among those she mentored through church and community life.

Many have remembered her as a guiding figure whose commitment to faith and education helped shape generations.
