Share

The National Police Service has announced that they have put in place increased security measures and traffic operations across the country as Kenyans prepare to celebrate Easter, which also marks the closure of schools and the rainy season.

In a press release, the Office of Inspector General, National Police Service, has reassured Kenyans, residents, and visitors of their safety as they prepare to travel to various parts of the country to celebrate Easter, noting a significant increase in movements and activities.

National Police Service has thus indicated that they have put in place a comprehensive strategy aimed at maintaining law and order in the country.

“The National Police Service (NPS) wishes to assure all Kenyans, residents, and visitors, of their safety and security as the country prepares for the Easter holidays, which coincide with the closure of schools and the ongoing rainy season,” a press release to the media indicated.

Police have thus acknowledged that the Easter holiday season presents a number of challenges, thus indicating that they have put in place measures to address these challenges to ensure safety.

Increased Patrols and Multi-Agency Coordination

The NPS revealed that it is working collaboratively with other government agencies to enforce road safety compliance and maintain order.

Authorities have intensified nationwide operations, with a focus on minimizing accidents and ensuring adherence to traffic regulations.

“Recognising that this period will be characterised by increased travel across the nation, social gatherings and tourism – all of which present unique security and safety challenges – the National Police Service has put in place a comprehensive strategy to maintain law and order,” the statement added.

Additional personnel have been deployed to boost police presence in key public areas, including shopping malls, places of worship, markets, recreational facilities, and transport hubs.

Surveillance and patrols have also been stepped up to safeguard critical infrastructure and public spaces.

“Secondly, the Service has deployed additional personnel and resources, geared towards achieving an increased police presence, intensified patrols and heightened surveillance in public areas, to ensure the protection of life and property,” the statement noted.

Road Safety Measures and Public Advisory

The police have issued a strong advisory to people using the road, urging them to exercise extreme caution on the road, particularly pedestrians, boda bodas, and PSV drivers.

It has been emphasized that compliance with road rules is of critical importance to reduce fatalities and injuries.

“We urge pedestrians, boda bodas, and public service vehicle (PSV) operators to exercise the highest degree of caution to help eliminate road fatalities and injuries.”

The authorities have identified a number of road safety measures, which include adhering to road signs, using designated road crossings, wearing protective gear, and abstaining from dangerous road behaviors such as drunk driving, distracted driving, and overloading.

Motorists have also been asked to observe regular maintenance of their vehicles in order to avoid any mechanical failure, which may result in road accidents.

“This will help minimize the risk of a road traffic crash due to mechanical failure.”

Public Vigilance and Reporting Channels

NPS stressed the importance of public cooperation in maintaining security, hence the need to remain vigilant.

This has been achieved through the creation of reporting channels, which include emergency numbers like 999 and 911, police stations, and reporting suspicious activities via dedicated hotlines and WhatsApp.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to serve and protect. We strongly encourage the public to remain vigilant and continuously share timely information about any suspicious activity,” the statement emphasized.
