The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced that it will take over the management of medical cover for officers of the National Police Service (NPS) and Kenya Prisons Service (KPS), including their eligible dependents, effective 12:00 a.m. on April 1, 2026.
In a notice issued on March 30, SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the transition will be under the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund.
She emphasized that the change will ensure continuity of care with no interruptions, stating:
“SHA is working closely with relevant institutions and healthcare providers to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for all officers and their dependents,” Mwangangi said.
Officers are reminded that their current medical cover will remain valid until 11:59 p.m. on March 31, 2026, after which SHA will assume responsibility.
The Authority has provided clear instructions to facilitate a smooth handover:
Dependants can be added via dialing *147# or visiting SHA or Afya Yangu.
