Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration has broken its silence following a night fire that razed part of Four Ways Petrol Station and a Pizza Inn outlet along Kiambu Road near the Northern Bypass junction.
In a statement dated Thursday, April 2, 2026, Nairobi City County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, said the county responded swiftly to the incident.
“Today, the County Government of Nairobi responded promptly to a distress call from Four Ways residents following a fire outbreak at the Total petrol station,” read part of the statement.
He noted that the Nairobi County Emergency and Disaster Response Team dispatched fire engines and firefighters, who arrived on time and contained the fire before it spread further.
Mosiria added that he visited the scene to support emergency responders, praising their quick action and professionalism in averting a potentially serious disaster.

He further described the incident as a wake-up call, urging owners of petrol stations and LPG gas plants located within or near residential areas to relocate to designated zones to enhance safety.
The county government, he said, will intensify inspections and enforce compliance to ensure high-risk operations are properly regulated.
“These measures are necessary to protect the lives and property of city residents and to prevent avoidable disasters in the future,” said Mosiria.
The statement comes hours after a fire broke out on the night of Wednesday, April 1, 2026, following a reported fuel tanker explosion at the petrol station.
Witnesses reported thick smoke and flames engulfing parts of the facility, sparking panic among nearby residents and motorists. Several vehicles parked at the scene were also consumed by the fire.

The Kenya Red Cross was also present at the scene.
“A fire incident has occurred at Total Fourways Petrol Station along Kiambu Road. Efforts to contain the fire are underway,” the organisation said in a statement.
