Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has hit Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna with eight demands as the party moves to initiate a disciplinary process against him.
The move comes days after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal directed that the party exhaust its internal dispute resolution mechanisms over his suspension as ODM Secretary-General.
In a letter dated Thursday, April 2, 2026, Wanga stated that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had resolved to begin proceedings for Sifuna’s removal from office over alleged gross misconduct.
“Take notice that pursuant to Article 74(2) of the Orange Democratic Movement Party Constitution, the National Executive Committee (NEC), at its meeting duly convened and held on 11th February 2026, resolved to initiate proceedings for your removal from office on account of acts amounting to gross misconduct,” read part of the letter.

She added that the process would adhere to the principles of natural justice, including giving Sifuna a fair opportunity to respond to the allegations before any final decision is made.
According to the notice, Sifuna is required to respond to several charges, including publicly contradicting party positions, issuing statements inconsistent with party resolutions, and undermining the party’s collective authority.

The ODM National Chairperson cited multiple instances, including appearances on Citizen TV’s The Explainer, where Sifuna allegedly declared the ODM-UDA Memorandum of Understanding “dead” and advanced views contrary to official party positions.
He is also accused of persistently contradicting party resolutions despite participating in internal meetings, as well as making further conflicting remarks in February 2026 that reportedly deepened confusion within the party.
“That on 3rd February 2026, during a subsequent appearance on The Explainer program titled “SIFUNA: THIS IS MY POINT”, you continued to advance positions inconsistent with Party resolutions, thereby aggravating confusion within the Party and its membership,” said Wanga.
Additionally, the party faulted him for initiating and participating in unsanctioned political activities under the “Linda Mwananchi Initiative,” which it says undermined ODM’s strategy and cohesion.
Other charges include not attending important party meetings and actions that harm the party’s interests, discipline, and public reputation.

As part of the demands, Sifuna has been directed to show cause in writing within four days, by April 8, 2026, why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
He is also expected to appear before a disciplinary panel appointed by the NEC on April 10, 2026, for a hearing and determination of the matter.
The party warned that failure to respond within the stipulated timeline would result in the matter being determined in his absence, in accordance with the ODM constitution.
