Gachagua Dares DCI to Arrest Him Amid Fuel Deal Controversy

Share

Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has escalated and increased his standoff with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), daring authorities to arrest him following explosive claims linked to the ongoing fuel importation scandal.

Speaking during a church service in Gatundu North, Gachagua accused the DCI of using summons and statements as a tool of intimidation.

He challenged the authority, stating that if authorities believed he had committed an offence, they should go ahead and arrest him, maintaining that he was ready to face the consequences.

This led to remarks after the DCI warned it was reviewing his speech for possible legal violations, including incitement, while dismissing his allegations as false and misleading.

“I see the DCI sending threatening letters to scare Riggy G. Let me tell the DCI, if you want to come and arrest me, come and arrest me and then see what will follow here,” Gachagua said.

G-TO-G Fuel Controversy

According to the reports, the main issue is the controversial government-to-government (G-to-G) fuel deal.

Gachagua has defended three senior energy officials who were recently removed from office over the importation of allegedly irregular fuel shipments.

He claims the officials were being punished not for corruption, but for attempting to secure cheaper fuel for Kenyans outside entrenched interests.

“The accusation is that they have brought in substandard fuel. That is not true,” he said.

According to Gachagua, the crackdown on the officials—and the seizure of large sums of money during investigations—raises more questions than answers.

He points out that the controversially alleged that part of the recovered funds, reportedly about Ksh 500 million, was diverted to a top state figure and was firmly rejected by investigators.

The government, however, maintains that the G-to-G fuel framework has been beneficial, with officials insisting it has delivered lower pump prices compared to emergency imports now under probe.
