DJ Krowbar Faces Backlash After Labeling Obinna ‘Ruto’s Puppet’

Share

The controversy over some statements made by DJKrowbar against a media personality known Oga Obinna has caused quite a stir on the social media platform X, with people having different opinions regarding the same topic due to political affiliations, economics, and other factors.

In the first place, DJKrowbar started the debate by stating that, “Obinna is a Ruto Puppet! I said what I said.”

Many people have come out to criticize his remarks as being either an open insult or an honest opinion.

In another reaction to the comments against their stance, one @Oigo stated, “Karumba NGATIA its not Obinna alone, there’s me, and many others, and there’s NOTHING you’ll do about that.”

The above statement reveals that many individuals agree with Obinna in relation to his stand against the government.

On the other hand, there was another user called @kim_kimutai, whose reaction was more philosophical in nature.

He said, “I like how the oath is punishing its descendants. May the hatred, bitterness, and sins of your forebearers haunt you forever.”

Democratic Space Or Political Policing?

Issues of free speech and free association were soon brought to light.

User @McGick posed a challenge to the criticism, posing the question in Kiswahili: “Na shida iko wapi mkuu? Thought it’s a democratic space? AMA, we stick to your options?”

This loosely translates to: “What’s the problem, boss? I thought this was a democratic space? Or should we stick to your choices?”

Another user, @elvis_onjiko, dismissed the criticism entirely, arguing: “So what? Is it a crime? You wantam fools with nothing to offer Kenyans other than shouting and abuses, keep thinking you are wiser than everyone else. He literally made money for many people, and that’s very positive. Tutam.”

Economic Self-Interest or Political Loyalty?

Some opted to bring realism into the conversation rather than ideology.

User @Trev254 noted: “99% of the people in the comments would jump at any chance to work with Ruto if the President funded their ventures. Even you, Krowbar, would not pass up the chance. Tuache kuwa hypocrites. Maybe gava ya Ruto haiwork lakini biz ni biz. Na hakuna mtu atakataa biashara mzuri.”

This loosely translates to: “Let’s stop being hypocrites. The government may not work, but business is business. No one refuses good business.”

Similarly, @Michael Jaganyi stressed democratic choice, stating: “That’s how democracy works. You choose people you associate with without fear of retribution. You had your time with Uhuru, let other people msje their choices and exercise their God-given rights.”

Political Intolerance Warnings

It was also noted that there were fears over rising intolerance.

User @musandungu warned in Kiswahili: “Hii ndio inaitwa uchochezi, when it matures we see certain people as enemies, then after the election, fight them. Guess who will be here asking us to pray when post-election violence happens, yours truly DJ. Tolerance muhimu from the beginning.”

This roughly translates to: “This is incitement. When it matures, people become enemies and fight after elections. Tolerance is crucial from the very beginning.”

Taking a constitutional perspective, user @Ochieng_Karan said: “Article 36 & 38 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, give every Kenyan the right to join any association and choose any political destiny.”

Similar views were expressed by user @verbosapien who said: “Uncomfortable truth: Notwithstanding the campaign to unseat the incumbent, we are a democracy. This means that everyone needs to be accommodated regardless of their political view. Let the man be.”
