Karen Blixen Museum to Temporarily Close on Two Scheduled Dates

The National Museums of Kenya has announced a temporary closure of the iconic Karen Blixen Museum on two specific dates in April and May 2026, urging visitors to plan their trips accordingly.

According to a public notice issued by the institution on April 7, 2026, the museum will remain closed on Saturday, April 11, 2026, and Friday, May 1, 2026, before resuming normal operations on all other days.

“The National Museums of Kenya wishes to inform the general public and all our esteemed visitors that the Karen Blixen Museum will be closed on Saturday, 11th April, 2026, and on Friday, 1st May, 2026,” the notice stated.

The institution reassured visitors that the museum will remain accessible outside the announced dates.

“The Museum will remain open and operational on all other days,” the notice added.

Apology to Visitors and Stakeholders

The National Museums of Kenya also issued an apology to visitors who may be affected by the temporary closure, acknowledging that such interruptions can disrupt travel plans and scheduled visits.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding,” the institution said in the notice.

The management encouraged members of the public to seek further information through official communication channels, including social media platforms and email, to stay updated on any additional announcements.

“For more information, please visit our official platforms or contact us directly,” the institution stated in the notice.

A Popular Cultural and Historical Landmark

The Karen Blixen Museum is one of Kenya’s most visited heritage sites, attracting both local and international tourists interested in history, literature, and colonial-era heritage.

Located at the foot of the Ngong Hills in Nairobi, the museum was once the home of Danish author Karen Blixen, best known for her memoir Out of Africa, which chronicles her life in colonial Kenya.
