Date Me or Lose My Vote! Man Turns on Omanga After Being Ignored

Share

There has been an alarming WhatsApp chat that has been released, whereby a man threatens the renowned Kenyan politician, Millicent Omanga, because she does not wish to reply to his romantic proposal.

These texts are going viral on social media, as they highlight the attempt made by the man to force Omanga to be in a romantic relationship with him by linking his vote to it.

In the conversation, the man says, “Good morning, Mheshimiwa Omanga, I am a very romantic person and kindly allow me to have romantic relationships culminating in marriage, please.”

This was then followed by muted call conversations that were not responded to, with the latter message being, “Niko kura ya Nairobi, but I will not vote for you bure kabisa.”

Public Reactions Pour In

Millicent Omanga responded to the backlash saying, “Atakama ni kura yawaaa! Hii blackmail yote, Msikuwe ivo.”

This loosely translates to: “Just because of votes? This is all blackmail, don’t behave like that.”

Several users weighed in on the incident.

One Twitter user, @Hanad Abdullahi, commented, “This is not a Gen Z hustler, this is an emotional blackmailer mixing politics with romance… what kind of syllabus is this. Advice to mhesh: please don’t give a chance to a desperate puppy like him.”

Conversely, some users attempted to defend the man.

@OmondiX argued, “This is not blackmail. Talk to him nicely and give him a chance because you never know if he was meant for you, and you’re busy chasing wild goose elsewhere.. Ata mimi ni wa Kibra but I will not vote for you.”

This loosely translates to: “Even I am from Kibra, but I will not vote for you.”

Social Conversations Beyond This

This particular case generated conversations around male roles in society, generational perspectives, and issues of courting on social media.

@Bkeen24 commented, “And I will say it again wewe funguwa tuu agency ya wamama hii itanasa unlike your political journey,” implying a comparison between social skills and politics.

@NyangLLP said, “Men these days tunakukatia once, twice, ukikataa tunamove on. We no longer beg. Men, we have realized we are the prize and that man took it personal,” pointing to a rise in self-respect among the youth.

On the other hand, @OchiengDeveline stated, “This does not speak well of men. Our young men do not work hard any more but use media to beg for money and love from old ladies… Very likely weak fellow. There has always been another way of getting ahead in life other than begging girls. Mjengo!”

Political Implications

The incident also stirred political commentary.

@Akben_ asked, “What is your manifesto like? What will you do differently to restore the dignity of this office? In Nairobi naona itakuwa issue-based and then strong messaging for the different demographics is key. Mimi I am rooting for you.”

Others focused on Omanga’s political choices, with @City_YoungBoy remarking, “Omanga saw Ruto was a dying horse..You chose right madam, though you once sided with him, but everyone deserves forgiveness and a second chance except Ruto. Maybe we’ll see favour in you.”
