US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports that the United States was forced to accept Iran’s alleged 10-point plan, describing the claims as “fake news” and accusing CNN of spreading misinformation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Trump said a report suggesting that Iran compelled the US to lift sanctions, withdraw its forces, and recognise Tehran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz was fraudulent.
The remarks came hours after the US government announced the suspension of airstrikes against Iran and issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the reopening of the strategic waterway.
Trump claimed the report originated from a “fake news site” and was subsequently picked up and amplified by CNN as a legitimate story.
“The alleged statement put out by CNN World News is a fraud, as CNN well knows,” Trump said.
He added that authorities are investigating whether a crime was committed in the dissemination of the report.
He further called on CNN to retract the story and issue a full apology, maintaining that the official Iranian statement differs significantly from what was circulated.
The US President warned that spreading such claims could hurt the delicate ceasefire efforts between Washington and Tehran.

Earlier, through his Truth Social platform, Trump had indicated that the US was pausing military operations in the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which had persisted for about a month following accusations that Tehran was pursuing nuclear weapons.
The United States President confirmed progress in diplomatic engagements and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following consultations with regional leaders in the Middle East.
He noted that discussions with Pakistani officials had influenced the decision to temporarily halt military action, expressing optimism about ongoing negotiations with Iran.
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I have agreed to suspend the bombing and attacks on Iran for a period of two weeks,” said the US President.

He said the US had agreed to suspend attacks for two weeks to allow room for diplomacy, adding that the move was part of a “double-sided ceasefire” and that Iran’s proposal could form a basis for negotiations.
“We have agreed to suspend the bombing… and are very far along with a definitive agreement concerning long-term peace,” Trump stated.
The US President also confirmed receiving a proposal from Iran, which he said could guide ongoing talks.
The reported 10-point plan includes a US commitment not to attack Iran, continued Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of Iran’s uranium enrichment, and the lifting of all sanctions. It also calls for the withdrawal of US forces from the region, an end to UN resolutions against Iran, compensation to Tehran, and a stop to the wider conflict, including fighting in Lebanon.
