We Love You, Can Work With You, Gachagua Tells Ruto Face-to-Face

Share

At the funeral of David Njuguna Kiaraho, an Ol Kalou MP who died after battling with a sickness, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sent a clear message to President William Ruto.

While addressing the gathering at Ol Kalou, Gachagua called for unity and respect of all communities, addressing the issue of tribalism and misrepresentation by politicians.

“Where you are standing on top of cars, you are saying we are tribal, you are insulting us in the heart. I humbly request you from today, my brother William Ruto, if you go to the Luos, don’t call us as tribal. We are not tribal, we elected you, you were not a Kikuyu, we gave our votes to you. Humbleness, I implore you, from now onwards, please don’t insult our community, even if you don’t love us, don’t insult us.”

According to Gachagua, however, there is hope that regardless of his problems with the president, he is still capable of working with the president.

“But we loved you, we supported you, we can work with you,” Gachagua said.

Dissent against Harmful Influences

Gachagua spared no words in criticizing the president’s entourage that, according to him, are all negative influences.

“But, those children the likes of Kimani Ichungwah, you are walking with are not good people,” he stated, implying dissatisfaction with those who surround the president, which could negatively affect governance.

In his experience as an active politician, Gachagua narrated the moment he was fired from the government job but stayed close to the local population.

“Mr. President, when you fired me from work, I went to Monyoro. I have been listening to the people. Even Uhuru Kenyatta, he has gone to Ichaveria and he is listening to the people,” he added.

Community Worries and Social Problems

In his address to the president, Gachagua raised important social problems faced by members of the community.

“Mr President, I was here yesterday and the women in this community told me to tell you, we have put to an end to alcohol issues but now it is back and it is killing our children,” said Gachagua, referring to social problems facing young people.

The deputy president also spoke up for himself in response to charges of destroying government projects.

“A few days ago, you were telling me that I am the one who had destroyed the project, that after one and a half year I have been gone, you could have amended it,” said Gachagua.
