The County Government of Bungoma has witnessed a complete overhaul of its top leadership, with Governor Kenneth M. Lusaka immediately dismissing all County Executive members.

The development was confirmed through an official press statement released on April 9, 2026.

According to a message from the Office of the Governor, the move aims to strengthen good governance and ensure more efficient delivery of services to the people of Bungoma.

The statement emphasized that the action aligns with constitutional provisions, underscoring the Governor’s commitment to his mandate.

“In pursuance of the constitutional mandate for good governance and service delivery, the Governor has restructured the County Executive,” the message read.

Immediate Dismissals Across Key Offices

The directive has far-reaching implications, affecting top county officials across multiple departments.

According to the press release, the restructuring was executed in line with legal provisions governing county administrations.

“Accordingly, subject to section 40(1)(a) of the County Government Act, all Members of the County Executive Committee, the County Attorney, and the County Secretary have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect,” the statement declared.

The mass dismissal effectively leaves the county without its core executive leadership, pending interim arrangements and new appointments expected to be announced in due course.

Government Cites Public Interest and Institutional Integrity

Governor Lusaka defended the decision as being in the best interest of Bungoma residents, stressing the need for efficiency and institutional credibility.

The statement pointed to governance challenges that necessitated urgent intervention.

“This decision has been taken in good faith and in the broader public interest, to facilitate the efficient functioning of County Government and to uphold the integrity of its institutions,” the statement noted.

Despite the abrupt nature of the dismissals, the county administration sought to reassure the public that essential services would not be disrupted.

Mechanisms have reportedly been put in place to maintain continuity during the transition period.

“The County Government remains committed to continuity of services, and appropriate administrative measures have been put in place to ensure that there is no disruption in the delivery of essential services to the great people of our county,” the statement added.
