Parliament’s Ad-hoc Funeral Planning Committee for the late Hon. David Njuguna Kiaraho has banned former DP Rigathi Gachagua and his associates from attending any future funeral arrangements of the MP.
The committee, chaired by Hon. Kwenya Thuku, took the action following chaotic incidents that disrupted the memorial service.
The decision was revealed on Thursday, April 9, 2026, during a debriefing exercise at the Parliament of Kenya, attended by representatives from the security sector and the funeral organizing committee.
“We cannot allow such kind of disrespect; therefore, the characters are not welcome to further funeral service events for Hon. Kiaraho,” Thuku declared.
“We shall not entertain any further spewing of venom at a funeral meant to pay respects to our departed colleague.”
The exercise evaluated how the memorial was conducted.
Committee Chairman Hon. Kwenya Thuku expressed disappointment with the disruptions witnessed on the day of the service.
“We are saddened and disappointed at the manner in which politics overshadowed our efforts to accord the deceased a memorable farewell.”
The Ad-Hoc Committee strongly condemned the conduct of politicians who allegedly turned the memorial platform into a battleground for political attacks.
According to the chairman, the organizing committee had extended an opportunity to leaders to address mourners in good faith, only for some to misuse the platform.

“As a Committee, we condemn the hijacking of such a solemn moment to spew political hatred, despite the Organizing Committee’s kindness in gracefully extending a chance to the said politicians to speak to the mourners,” Hon. Kwenya stated.
He further noted that several speakers used the occasion to launch attacks against perceived political opponents, including the Head of State, which the committee termed inappropriate and disrespectful, given the context of mourning.
The committee issued a stern warning that similar behavior would not be tolerated during the requiem service scheduled for later that day in Nairobi, as well as the burial set for Friday at the late MP’s Tigoni home.
“The attacks on the Office and the Person of the Head of State were unthinkable in such a situation where His Excellency, the President, only came to honor the late MP and condole with his family and constituents,” Hon. Kwenya regretted.

He emphasized that funerals should remain spaces of unity, respect, and dignity, regardless of political differences.
The requiem service for the late Hon. Kiaraho is set to take place at St. Andrew’s PCEA Church in Nairobi, followed by his burial at his Tigoni farm on Friday, April 10, 2026.
