Authorities in Pakistan’s capital have declared local holidays on Thursday and Friday ,April 9th and 10th 2026, ahead of high-profile diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran set to take place in Islamabad.
The Islamabad district administration issued the notification late Wednesday, April 8,2026.
According to the Office of the District Magistrate, the holidays apply only within the revenue limits of the Islamabad Capital Territory.
“Essential services will remain operational,” the deputy commissioner’s office said, adding that hospitals and other critical services will continue to operate. Citizens were advised to plan their activities accordingly.
The holiday coincides with Pakistan’s preparations to host high-stakes talks aimed at resolving tensions in the Middle East.
According to reports, Vice President JD Vance will lead the U.S. delegation to the negotiations scheduled to begin Friday, while the Iranian delegation is expected to arrive Thursday night.

The diplomatic efforts come after US President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, narrowly avoiding his 8 p.m. deadline to take extreme action.
The ceasefire was secured following Pakistan’s backchannel diplomacy to de-escalate the regional conflict.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appealed to President Trump, urging all sides to pause hostilities while negotiations progressed toward a potential settlement.

Trump stated that the ceasefire is contingent upon Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical international waterway.
“The agreement marks a significant step toward reducing tensions in the Middle East, with both sides agreeing to a temporary pause in hostilities,” said a Pakistani official familiar with the negotiations.
Residents of Islamabad will see a temporary closure of government and private offices, with exceptions for essential services.
Authorities have encouraged citizens to adjust their plans accordingly, as heightened security and logistical measures are put in place ahead of the international diplomatic event.
