Property Destroyed as Morning Fire Sweeps Through Nairobi Estate

Share

Residents of Uthiru in Nairobi County woke up to panic on Sunday morning after a fire broke out inside a local estate, destroying property and sending thick smoke billowing into the sky.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning, April 12, 2026, when a blaze erupted at a beer depot located within Uthiru Cooperation, catching many residents off guard as flames spread rapidly through the premises.

According to eyewitnesses, the early-morning fire produced a massive cloud of smoke visible from nearby areas, drawing crowds of concerned locals who attempted to contain it before it spread further.

Firefighters Arrive as Emergency Response Kicks in

At the time of publishing, firefighters had already arrived at the scene with a fire engine to contain the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, although no casualties have been reported from the incident.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the fire started at around 5:00am, catching both late-night revellers and early-morning residents by surprise as the neighbourhood began its usual morning routines.

Reports indicate that the flames spread quickly after starting in a section of the depot used to store spirits, which are highly flammable and can cause fires to intensify and spread rapidly.

Rising Concern Over Fire Incidents

The latest incident comes amid a growing concern over a series of fire outbreaks reported in various Nairobi estates, many of which have occurred either in the early morning hours or during the evening.

In December 2025, a major fire swept through the densely populated Mlango Kubwa estate, spreading rapidly across homes and structures largely built using corrugated iron sheets, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.

In another case in November, Mukuru Fuata Nyayo Village in South B Ward was also affected by a 2 am blaze that destroyed property of unknown value.

In most of the fire incidents reported, residents have repeatedly expressed concern over delayed responses from the fire department, saying that the late arrival of emergency services often contributes to the rapid spread of the flames.
