A disgruntled international supporter has issued a formal notice of intent to sue Arsenal Football Club, its players, and manager Mikel Arteta following the club’s disappointing performance against AFC Bournemouth.

In a letter dated April 11, 2026, and addressed to Arsenal’s Highbury House offices in London, Uganda-based fan Eric Kyama accused the club of “breach of fiduciary duty and professional negligence,” citing what he described as an unacceptable display on the pitch.

“I am writing this formal notice of my intention to pursue legal action against Arsenal Football Club, its first-team players and manager Mikel Arteta following the unacceptable performance against AFC Bournemouth,” Kyama stated.

The supporter, who identifies himself as a dedicated fan from Kampala, argued that the team’s performance fell far below expected professional standards, alleging a lack of effort, poor tactics, and diminished ambition.

“The performance observed was characterized by a distinct lack of effort, tactical incoherence, and an apparent absence of sporting ambition,” he wrote.

Eric Kyama Outlines Grievances Against Arsenal

Kyama outlined several specific grievances, including claims of professional negligence by the players.

“The players demonstrated a complete lack of industry, playing without discernible aim or urgency. This failure to exert maximum effort constitutes a dereliction of professional duty,” he said.

He also directly criticized Arteta’s managerial approach, stating: “I formally accuse Mikel Arteta of lacking the tactical prowess required to lead this institution. His failure to adapt to the match dynamics resulted in a disjointed display that left the team vulnerable and directionless.”

Beyond on-field issues, the fan argued that the performance had caused emotional and financial harm to supporters worldwide.

“Supporters invest significant time, emotion, and financial resources into following this club. By fielding a team that appeared indifferent to the result, the club has caused actionable distress to its international stakeholders,” Kyama wrote.

He further accused the club of failing to live up to its own brand values. “The club markets itself on the pillars of excellence and ‘Victory Through Harmony.’

Lack of Spirit Against Bournemouth

Kyama added that the lack of fighting spirit shown against Bournemouth is a fraudulent misrepresentation of these core values.

Kyama warned that unless the club provides “a formal explanation and a clear plan for immediate restitution of competitive standards,” he will proceed with legal consultations to seek damages.

“Expect further communication from my legal representatives,” he concluded.

Arsenal has not yet publicly responded to the letter.
