Several degree programs offered at Moi University have lower cluster points for the 2025 KCSE cohort compared to the previous year.
The trend is expected to enhance students’ chances of being admitted in the programs they prefer when applying via Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
A survey by hivileo.co.ke on the placement portal highlights remarkable drops for highly competitive courses.
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is one of the courses with its points dropping significantly from 38.968 in 2023 to 22.815 in 2024.
Similarly, the cluster point for Bachelor of Science in Microbiology fell remarkably from 26.794 in 2023 to 14.796 in 2024.
There were also significant drops in programs under health sciences.
The cluster points for Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery dropped from 45.087 in 2023 to 42.066 in 2024.
The cluster point for Bachelor of Dental Surgery fell from 44.502 in 2023 to 39.192 in 2024.
Nursing is among the degree programs whose cluster points declined.
The course cluster points decreased from 42.390 in 2023 to 36.592 in 2024.
Under the education and arts disciplines, Bachelor of Education in Science program experienced a significant drop from 44.603 in 2023 to 25.341 in 2024.

In the field of Business and communication in related programmes shows similar trends.
Bachelor of Business Management declined from 21.375 to 19.799, while Bachelor of Science in Communication and Journalism has dropped from 30.200 to 23.564.
There is also a drop in Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management which decreased from 26.656 in 2023 to 22.423, 2025.
Engineering courses recorded some of the sharpest decline.
Civil and Structural Engineering dropped from 39.539 to 27.907.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering from 36.366 to 15.299.
On the other hand, Mechanical and Production Engineering dropped from 36.089 to 26.664.
Chemical and Process Engineering also declined from 24.111 in 2023 to 15.299 2024.

Other programmes with have shown cluster points deduction include Community Health Education, Geography, Guidance and Counselling, Project Planning and Management, Medical Psychology and Physiotherapy.
The downward comparison of the two years drops across the subjects in each field suggests increased flexibility in placement entry point this year.
Students applying through KUCCPS are advised to reflect and review the updated cluster points carefully before submitting their course selections.
This will enhance their course selection, and the changes could improve their chances of securing placement in competitive programmes.
