The government has reconstituted the Local Organising Committee for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), revoking an earlier team as preparations are underway ahead of a scheduled visit by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe.

In a gazette notice dated March 27, 2026, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya announced the changes, saying they are meant to improve planning for the tournament.

“Whereas, upon review of the complexities, logistics and magnitude of preparations required for successfully co-hosting the 36th Edition of 36th Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations–2027 set to take place in early 2027,” read part of the gazette notice.

The changes also revoke the earlier appointments made under the 2024 gazette notice.

The reconstitution comes ahead of a planned visit by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, who is expected in Kenya from May 11 to 12 to assess the country’s readiness to host the tournament.

During the visit, Motsepe will inspect key stadiums and training facilities as part of CAF’s efforts to ensure all venues meet the required standards.

The visit follows preliminary assessments conducted in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the three countries set to co-host AFCON 2027 under the “Pamoja” bid.

Kenya is expected to use the new committee structure to fast-track preparations and address any gaps ahead of the continental showpiece.
