Kenya Power says it will cut electricity in parts of Nairobi, Garissa County, and Kisumu on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

The blackout will run for most of the day as the team carries out planned maintenance on the power network and posts.

According to the notice, the most affected place will go dark from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In Nairobi North, the blackout starts an hour later at 9 a.m. but still runs till 5 p.m.

The aim for this is to ensure better reliability and an updated infrastructure.

Customers in Nairobi South should expect interruptions along Likoni Road, Road C, and parts of Mombasa Road.

This maintenance will affect industrial, commercial, and residential areas, places like Ideal Paints, Capitol Laundry, Panari Hotel, Airtel’s headquarters, and several apartment blocks and businesses.

Over in Nairobi North, sections of Buruburu and Makadara will lose power.

Important sites include Jogoo Road Police Station, The Point Mall, Uhuru Market, and nearby homes and businesses.

In Garissa, the entire area, including Garissa Referral Hospital, the county offices, Garissa University, Modika Barracks, water treatment plants, and many neighborhoods, will be without power for the whole period.

The company also reminds you to switch off electrical appliances so there’s no risk of damage when power comes back.

The staff insisted that if work wraps up early, electricity might return sooner, but it’s safer to treat all outlets and cables as live, even during the outage.

Authorities say routine maintenance like this will help keep Kenya’s grid stable and ready for the country’s growing power needs.
