Share

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has outlined ongoing multi-billion-shilling government projects in Meru County. The projects target health, energy, roads and trade. They aim to improve services and boost economic growth.

According to a statement he shared on his official X account on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the National Government is constructing new and modern facilities at the Meru Level 5 Hospital at a cost of 1 billion shillings. The project will strengthen healthcare services in the region.

“State of the art medical equipment will then be installed to treat heart, kidney, cancer and other serious illnesses, paving way for the elevation of the Hospital to a Level 6 National Teaching and Referral Hospital by next year,” he stated.

“As a result, the hospital will handle complex cases locally. This move will also ease pressure on national referral hospitals,” he added.

Rural Electrification Expands Access

Meanwhile, the government is expanding electricity access across Meru County. The rural electrification programme will connect 26,500 additional households. The project will cost 2.4 billion shillings.

This initiative will support small businesses. It will also improve living standards in rural areas.

Roads Upgrade Underway

In addition, the government is investing heavily in road infrastructure. Tarmacking of rural access roads is ongoing at a cost of 39 billion shillings. These roads will improve transport and market access.

Further, the upgrading of roads within Meru Town will begin soon. The project will cost 3.7 billion shillings.
