Burnley Speak Out After Haaland Goal Confirms Premier League Relegation

Share

Burnley F.C. has issued a statement to players and fans after Erling Haaland scored to confirm their relegation from the Premier League, following a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City F.C., who secured the win to boost their push for the top of the table.

The Club said the 2025/26 season has been difficult for everyone involved, hence their relegation to the Championship.

“Confirmation of relegation from the Premier League has been the consequence of a difficult season for everyone connected with Burnley Football Club,” reads part of the statement.

Burnley said no one connected to it wanted to be relegated, noting that the Premier League is the most demanding football league, and they knew of the challenges ahead.

The Club pointed out that there were periods of progress that showed the standard expected of the players, but they generally lacked the quality to compete in the top tier.

“We began the campaign fully aware that the most demanding league in the world would present significant challenges. This outcome is not what anyone connected with the club wanted,” Burnley said.

“This season has presented challenges that have tested every part of the club. There have been periods of progress and performances that demonstrated the standards we expect, but ultimately, we have fallen short of the quality and consistency required to compete at the Premier League level.”

Burnley Thanks Supporters

Further, Burnley thanked the supporters for standing with the players throughout the season.

The Club said it has a history running back to 144 years that cannot be defined by a single season, but by the ability to bounce back.

“We would like to thank our supporters who have been with us through every high and low, home and away. That continued support is fundamental to everything we do,” Burnley said.

“Burnley Football Club has 144 years of history. It has never been defined by a single season, but by its ability to respond and move forward.”
