Willis Raburu Joins Linda Mwananchi Movement, Sets Sights on Kisumu Senate Seat

Former Citizen TV journalist Willis Raburu has joined the Linda Mwananchi Movement led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo.

In a statement dated Thursday, April 23, 2026, Governor Orengo officially welcomed Raburu to the movement, confirming that he will vie for the Kisumu senatorial seat in the next General Election.

“Today, I had an engaging tete-a-tete with @WillisRaburu. He’s officially bringing his signature youthful energy, corporate MC expertise, and creative media edge to the Linda Mwananchi Movement,” said Orengo.

Additionally, Orengo noted that Raburu’s entry into politics signals a growing interest among young professionals seeking leadership positions, adding that the movement is keen on tapping into fresh ideas and innovation.

“Willis is running for the Kisumu senatorial seat, and we are thrilled he’s chosen to board our bus, a movement fueled by the aspirations of the youth and a drive for a better Kenya. Mashemeji derby tunayo hii wikendi!” Orengo added.

At least seven candidates have announced their plans to run for the Kisumu County senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election. Senator Tom Ojienda, the current senator, is expected to run for governor instead.

Besides Willis Raburu, other candidates who have expressed interest in the Kisumu Senatorial seat include

Former Kisumu Woman Representative Rose Nyamunga, Lawyer Fredrick Odumo, Engineer Paul Otieno Olewe, leader of the DUM-Kenya party, Brian Elly Opar, Gilbert Amollo, Samuel Ondoro, Elvis Fidel Omollo and Steven Ochieng Nyandiare.

Journalists Who Have Expressed Interest in Elective Seats

The 2027 General Election is already attracting interest from several Kenyan journalists and media personalities seeking elective office, apart from Willis Raburu.

As of early 2026, several prominent media figures have declared or signalled intentions to enter politics, targeting various positions across the country.

Among them is Lulu Hassan of Citizen TV, who is eyeing the Mvita Member of Parliament seat. Her colleague Stephen Letoo has expressed interest in the Kilgoris MP seat, while Trevor Ombija is planning to run for the Nyakach MP seat.

In Kiambu County, Michael Njenga of Inooro TV is preparing to contest the Kabete MP seat. On the Coast, radio presenter Alex Mwakideu is setting his sights on the Kilifi gubernatorial race, while Hamisi Hamadi is targeting the Likoni MP seat.

In Nairobi, Tina Ogal is reportedly interested in the Embakasi East parliamentary seat. Meanwhile, Gwiji Isaiah of K24 TV is said to be eyeing the Nandi senatorial position.
