The National Police Service (NPS) has called for calm and restraint after a series of retaliatory attacks in Tseikuru Sub-County, Kitui County, that have left several people dead.
In a press statement issued on April 26, 2026, the NPS said it was deeply disturbed by the killings, which it linked to an escalating cycle of revenge attacks between the members of the Kamba and Somali communities.
The NPS says that security has already been dispatched by the Inspector General Douglas Kanja as the team is being led by his deputy Eliud Lagat, who is already on the ground at Kwa Kamari Tseikuru.
According to the police, the violence dates back to March 29, 2026, when a 44-year-old Kamba herdsman was killed near Mwingi Game Reserve.
“The National Police Service is deeply perturbed by the deaths reported at Tseikuru Sub-county, Kitui County, as reported yesterday evening. A chronology of criminal attacks below points to a pattern of retaliatory attacks involving two communities, the Kamba and the Somali, which must not only be condemned but also stopped immediately,” reads part of the statement.
The situation appears to have worsened on April 25, when an attack in Kwa Kamari area resulted in the deaths of seven people, all believed to be from the Kamba community.

The NPS has condemned the killings, terming them “senseless and needless loss of life” and emphasizing the need for an immediate end to the violence.
The police say additional reinforcements are also being dispatched to Tseikuru as part of efforts to restore order and prevent further attacks.
Authorities have also pledged to conduct thorough investigations into the incidents.
“The whole aspect of these attacks will be investigated exhaustively and to a logical conclusion,” part of the statement read.
The NPS urged both communities to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation of the matter, while calling on local leaders to promote peace and reconciliation.
At the same time, members of the public have been encouraged to share any information that could assist ongoing investigations.
Reports of the matter can be made at the nearest police station.
