A gunman opened fire while attempting to force entry into the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner on Saturday evening.

Secret Service agents swiftly evacuated President Donald Trump and members of his cabinet from the stage.

Video from the ballroom at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., showed Secret Service agents rushing onto the stage and escorting President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance away.

Hundreds of attendees took cover under tables as gunshots rang out, with a voice heard shouting, “Get down!”

Trump Issues Statement

In a statement, Trump thanked the Secret Service for acting quickly and bravely to control the situation and apprehend the suspect.

“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we “LET THE SHOW GO ON” but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we’ll just, plain, have to do it again,” Trump said.

President Donald Trump said law enforcement requested that they leave the premises immediately in line with security protocol.
