The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) admission process is a key step for students seeking placement in universities, colleges, and TVET institutions across the country.
Understanding the KUCCPS admission process is crucial, as it involves several stages—from course application and revision to placement, admission letters, and reporting to institutions.
Missing any step or failing to submit the required documents can lead to delays or loss of a placement.
KUCCPS conducts the placement exercise through an online portal, allowing candidates to apply, revise choices, and track their admission status.
The process is guided by cut-off points, available capacity, and government policy on higher education and technical training.
This step-by-step guide outlines the KUCCPS admission process and highlights the essential documents students must present after placement.
Step 1: Access the KUCCPS Website
Visit the official KUCCPS website and click on the students’ Portal to begin the application process.
Step 2: Log in to the Student Portal
Enter your KCSE Index Number, KCSE year, and password (KCPE Index Number or Birth Certificate Number) as used during KNEC registration.
Step 3: Provide and Confirm Contact Details
Update your phone number and email address. These contacts are mandatory and will be used for placement communication.

Step 4: Review Your Dashboard Information
Confirm your KCSE details and, if eligible for degree programmes, review your automatically computed Weighted Cluster Points (WCP).
A zero WCP indicates a missing mandatory subject.
Step 5: Identify Programmes and Institutions
Browse programmes through the Institutions menu or the Programmes menu.
Courses are grouped by qualification level: Degree, Diploma (Level 6), Craft Certificate (Level 5), and Artisan (Level 4).
Step 6: Review Programme Details Carefully
Open each programme to confirm minimum mean grade, subject requirements, costs, previous cut-off points, and institutions offering the course.
Step 7: Choose Courses According to KUCCPS Rules
Degree applicants must select similar programmes under choice 1(a), 1(b), and 1(c) across different institutions, followed by choices 2, 3, and 4.
Other levels allow four choices per category.
Step 8: Use the Course Basket (Optional)
Add programmes to the Course Basket to compare options.
This feature helps shortlist courses, but does not count as an application.
Step 9: Enter Programme Codes and Submit
Navigate to Application/Revision, read the instructions, click Apply Now, and enter the 7-character programme codes in order of preference.
Step 10: Pay the Application Fee
After submission, proceed to payment via the integrated platform.
Available options include M-PESA, KCB, RTGS, and Airtel Money.
For M-PESA, use the Business Number 222222 and the system-generated account number, not the transaction code.

Step 11: Confirm Successful Submission
Check Application History or the Dashboard, where a successful application appears highlighted.
Step 12: Revise or Delete Applications Before Deadline
Applicants may revise choices, delete programme codes, or opt out of multiple-category processing before the application window closes.
Step 13: Understand Funding and Placement Outcomes
Government capitation applies to public universities and public TVET institutions under the Ministry of Education.
Private universities, TTCs, KMTC, and diploma programmes in public universities are not government-funded, though students may seek HELB or alternative funding.
