Riara University has steadily positioned itself as one of Kenya’s fastest-growing private universities, combining a strong academic heritage with an innovation-driven vision.
Founded by veteran educationists Daniel Gachukia and Prof. Eddah Gachukia, this institution epitomizes decades of investment in quality education, ethical leadership, and learner-centered growth.
The roots of Riara University date back to 1974, when the Gachukia family took over a small kindergarten along Riara Road in Nairobi.
Gradually growing from an institution that predominantly admitted children from expatriate families, the institution opened itself up to local learners and embarked on well-planned expansion.
This well-planned growth in expansion later birthed the Riara Group of Schools that today comprises its flagship kindergartens and primary schools, a girls’ secondary school, and international schools.
On this solid foundation, Riara University was formally founded in 2012 after the institution received a Letter of Interim Authority to start offering higher education.
Since the institution was founded, it has employed a careful growth plan.
It took the institution seven years to have its first graduating class in 2017.
Since then, the institution has managed to cultivate a staggering alumni base of over 2,500 members who have gained international recognition and won international scholarships.
Riara University operates under Kenya’s Universities Act and is regulated by the Commission for University Education.
It has also earned full accreditation from the Council of Legal Education for its law programs and recognition from KASNEB as both a training and examination centre for professional accounting courses.
The institution is headed by the Chancellor, Dr. Wilfred Kiboro, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Robert Gateru, in collaboration with senior managers responsible for academic, financial, and administrative matters.

This is quite a significant step considering that Riara University broke ground on its new main campus in Konza Technopolis, marking the first time that any private university has invested in Konza.
