When applying for university or college placement through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), Physics is not a compulsory subject for a wide range of marketable and professional courses in Kenya.
KUCCPS recognises that learners have different strengths, and as a result, many programmes prioritise subjects such as Mathematics, English, Biology, Geography, History, Business Studies, or Computer Studies instead of Physics.
Some of the courses include:
Education Courses
Physics is not compulsory for most education degrees, except when training specifically as a Physics teacher.
Examples include:
These programmes mainly require Mathematics and English.
Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
Physics is not required in these disciplines.
Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
(Physics is not required; strong performance in English or Kiswahili is emphasised.)
Hospitality, Tourism and Creative Courses
Some health-related courses do not require Physics, focusing more on Biology and Chemistry.
ICT and Information-Based Courses (Selected)
Some ICT programmes may accept Mathematics without Physics.
Course requirements vary by university, even when applying through KUCCPS.
Always confirm cluster subjects and minimum grades before selecting a programme.
Not having Physics does not limit your chances of joining a university or pursuing a professional career.
